How to Reprogram a LiftMaster Gate Opener in Houston
Lost your remote? Moved into a new home and need to clear old codes? Reprogramming a LiftMaster gate opener is something many Houston homeowners can do themselves. This guide covers the most common LiftMaster gate systems used in Houston properties.
Before You Start
You’ll need access to the motor unit mounted on or near the gate, plus your new remote. Your model number is on a sticker on the side of the motor.
Step 1: Clear the Old Codes
Press and hold the Learn button on the motor unit for about 6 seconds until the LED turns off. This erases all previously programmed remotes and keypads. If you’re in a new home, this step ensures old remotes no longer work.
Step 2: Program a New Remote
Press the Learn button once (quick press, don’t hold). The LED will light up. Within 30 seconds, press and hold the button on your new remote until the motor unit’s light flashes or you hear two clicks. Test by pressing the remote button once.
Step 3: Program a Keypad
Press Learn once, then within 30 seconds enter your PIN on the keypad and press Enter or #. The motor light flashes to confirm. Choose a non-obvious PIN.
When Reprogramming Doesn’t Work
If the gate still won’t respond, the issue may not be the remote. Common culprits include a failing control board, dead batteries, radio frequency interference, or wiring issues. If these steps don’t work, call a professional.
